Moka Pot

A Moka Pot is a stovetop coffee maker that brews coffee by forcing hot water upward through a bed of ground coffee using steam pressure. The result is a rich, aromatic cup that sits somewhere between espresso and filter coffee in both strength and body.
  • Coffee-to-Beverage Ratio

Depends on the size of your Moka Pot. Fill the lower chamber with water up to the safety valve and fill the filter basket completely with coffee without tamping.
  • Water Temperature

    Hot water
    (90–95°C)
  • Grind Size

    Medium-Fine

How to Make Coffee with a Moka Pot
The grind should be slightly coarser than espresso but finer than V60. Visually, it should resemble fine granulated sugar.
Fill the filter basket completely, but do not tamp the coffee.

How to Brew?

  • Fill the lower chamber with hot water, making sure the water level does not rise above the safety valve.
  • Fill the filter basket with ground coffee, leveling the surface without tamping.
  • Assemble the Moka Pot and tighten the upper chamber securely.
  • Place the brewer on the stove over low to medium heat.
  • As the coffee begins flowing into the upper chamber, monitor the brewing process. Once you hear the characteristic hissing sound, remove the Moka Pot from the heat.
  • Pour the coffee into your cup and enjoy immediately.
  • Tip
If you're using a gas stove, make sure the flame stays beneath the base of the Moka Pot and does not extend around the sides. This helps prevent overheating and results in a sweeter, more balanced cup.
  • Characteristics
The Moka Pot produces a rich, flavorful coffee without the use of paper filters. As a result, more of the coffee's natural oils remain in the cup, creating a fuller body and a more expressive flavor profile.

Characteristics
    • We recommend using freshly ground coffee whenever possible. Once coffee is ground, it gradually loses aromatic compounds through exposure to air.
    • Starting with hot water in the lower chamber reduces the amount of time the coffee is exposed to heat, helping preserve sweetness and clarity.
    • Brew over low to medium heat. Excessive heat can make the coffee taste harsh and bitter.
    • As soon as coffee begins flowing rapidly into the upper chamber and the characteristic hissing sound appears, remove the brewer from the heat. This helps avoid over-extraction and preserves balance.
    • For a richer, fuller-bodied cup
    Use a slightly finer grind.
    • For a cleaner, smoother cup
    Use a slightly coarser grind.
    • If the coffee tastes too bitter
Lower the heat or remove the brewer from the stove a little earlier.
    • If the coffee tastes too weak
Try using a slightly finer grind.
    • Avoid tamping the coffee
The coffee bed should remain loose. Tamping can restrict water flow, leading to over-extraction and an unbalanced cup.
